200 Nigerian Air Force Men Return From Gambia

200 Nigerian Air Force Men Return From GambiaTwo hundred of the Nigerian Air Force personnel sent for peace keeping in Banjul, The Gambia, are back home, after what they called a successful campaign in the country.
The officers and men who arrived at about 6:30 on Thursday evening, were brought in an Air Force plane.
The troops were part of the ECOWAS military force sent to restore democracy in The Gambia.
Former President Yayah Jameh had refused to step down after losing an election to current President Adama Barrow.
The officers and airmen were received by Air Vice Marshal, James Gbum at the Air Force wing of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos.
ECOWAS decided to engage its military after the mediating team led by Nigerian leader, Muhammadu Buhari, could not convince President Jammeh to relinquish power to then president-elect of Gambia, Adama Barrow.
Mr Jammeh had earlier said he would accept the result of the election but changed his mind few days later, insisting that another election should be held.
Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, Mr Mohammed Dan-Ali, explained that ECOWAS decided in a meeting to use its standby force in upholding the result of the presidential election held in December 2016, which produced Mr Adama Barrow as winner.
The Minister added that in line with the ECOWAS directive, the Nigerian military would deploy its assets to protect the people of The Gambia and maintain regional peace and security.
The mission was accomplished when Mr Adama Barrow was successfully sworn-in as President in neighbouring Senegal with Jammeh left with no other option than to leave few days after.
This paved the way for the return of Barrow as President, but the ECOWAS troops had to remain in the country ahead of the arrival of the elected President Adama Barrow.
ECOWAS said that it was retaining troops from Nigeria, Senegal and Ghana to secure the city for the next six days ahead of President Adama Barrow’s return.

Watch out! James Ibori will be back!!!

On a day that a London court ruled that former Delta state governor James Ibori, could return to Nigeria, he signalled a possible political comeback in the country.

He told Reuters he would return within days to Nigeria.

Ibori was released from British prison in December after serving half of his 13-year sentence, taking into account pre-trial detention.

“What happens in African politics – you are in it until you die,” Ibori told Reuters in London on Tuesday.

“I am a politician, I will always be a politician. I play the politics in my party and in my country for the good of my people,” he said after a court hearing, part of ongoing legal proceedings in his case.

Ibori’s release had reportedly prompted dancing in the streets in parts of Delta State.

Asked if he would run for office again, Ibori said he was barred from doing so for 10 years because of his conviction, but that he intended to appeal to have that conviction overturned.

The appeal would centre on an allegation, made by one of Ibori’s former associates, that a British police officer had taken bribes in return for inside information on the case before Ibori’s conviction, and that prosecutors had covered it up.

British police say the allegation was investigated, resulting in no arrests or charges.

The state prosecution service says material supporting the allegation exists and it initially failed to disclose that to Ibori’s defence team, but it is confident Ibori’s conviction remains valid. Court proceedings are ongoing.

My take on the criticisms against the Tuface protest - Ify Ezinwa writes

Popular On air Personel and Content Writter Ezinwa Sandra Ify Has Decided to stand up to her feet to support the Protest which is being pulled by legendary 2baba, in a peice of article shared on her social media platform she express her take on this protest.

In the words of Fela Anikulapo kuti,Music is the weapon. But when Music fails to get to the target audience for some reasons which primarily could be because of the genre of music or the conveyed messages getting beclouded by the melodious tone of a musical piece,it is absolutely not out of place for a "mere musician" as some people put it to carry out much more serious demonstrations like the Tuface protest to be carried out on the 6th of February 2017 at the National stadium surulere Lagos.

Apparently, there has been criticisms, really Unconstructive ones against the movement; so many but I found one really by a Nigerian professor;he said "you're a bloody illiterate,You had sex with all manners of girls without using condoms. You impregnated them and made babies all over the place;now you want to lead protest against the government because of lack of governance.Have you governed your own personal life?Charity they say begins at home,Nonsense" We seem to Forget,Fela Kuti, the Nigerian multi-instrumentalist,musician,pioneer of the Afro beat music genre, human right activist and political maverick, the Man with 27 wives;who came from prison and divorced the 12 that were still with him with countless numbers of children;A man seen today as a hero and celebrated till date with a shrine built in his memory which serves as the host location of the annual felabration festival. Now,I do not intend to compare the life of Fela to that of Tuface but I know that people with common sense can tell that if the moderacy of a person's sexual life is truly a yardstick for measuring how much sense a person makes as our Professor claims, one who can listen & support to Fela Kuti's movement would support even more to Tuface Idibia's! We live in a country whose media is immensely influenced by politics.

Today, news reflects the ideological biases of the journalists and those who are not in support of the present government are vilified just like Governor Fayose;which makes only the brave hearted to stand and speak out while the sycophants who obviously have one or two to gain and the chicken-hearted smile and suffer hoping for the change that will never come!Everyone has their own role to play;it's either you play the brave hearted or the chicken hearted and ofcourse the sycophants too,it is yours to decide but what's unfair and foolish to do is to condemn and even try to go as far as boycotting the plans of brave hearted as Bovi the comedian tweeted. To people who perceive this movement as a publicity stunt,To the people who think Tuface is a tool used by the PDP and to the people who are amazed at his "supposed" sudden interest in politics,I refer you to a single he released in 2014 "vote and not fight"(election no be war) with this, you can tell that he's always indeed got the interest of the masses at heart as well as righting the wrongs through music!Oh yes,I bet you never heard the song cos we all know the kind of Musics that makes a Hit in the Industry of today! It is 2017,the situation has gone past Music as a weapon. It is time we stood our ground firmly for indeed, nothing is getting better and just like Tuface Idibia said "We have been poor and desperate "This truly isn't the change we voted for However, there is indeed no cause for alarm as it is a peaceful demonstration. Stand up Nigeria! 🇳🇬 Stand up for the real change! Stand up!

DSS Bans Apostle Suleiman from granting interviews

Abuja - The Department of State Services (DSS) has cautioned the general overseer of Omega Fire Ministries, Apostle Johnson Suleman, to watch his tongue because of the importance attached to his messages by his followers.

The caution the DSS gave Suleman is sequel to his alleged sermon asking his followers to kill any herdsmen found within his church premises.

The sermon caught the attention of DSS operatives who tried to apprehend the cleric in Ekiti state before they were stopped by Governor Ayo Fayose on January 25.

The service then invited Suleman to its office in Abuja for interrogation on Monday January 31, over the issue, where it told the cleric to stop granting interviews.

The secret service has asked the cleric to stop granting interviews.

A security source at the DSS who does not want to be named, told the Punch that Suleman was equally told by security operatives to know that his followership cut across Christianity and Islam and should therefore mind the way he speaks.

The source said: "We asked him why he made such a provocative statement and he defended himself.

“He (Suleman) said he made the statement based on available information that some herdsmen were planning to attack him and that he merely asked his church members to defend him and the church property.

“While we didn’t argue with him, we asked him to note that his followership cuts across the two dominant religions, which are Christianity and Islam.

“We also asked him to note that the Federal Government was doing its best to curtail the activities of the herdsmen and also fight crime generally.

“He said he knew, but added that the government needed to do much more and that he was not out to cause religious crisis but was merely expressing his anger at the refusal of government to take actions that he said could reasonably convince Nigerians that it (the government) is not partial.”

The source also disclosed that both parties have agreed not to speak with the media on the outcome of the interrogation.
